The LAD Program
Who runs it?
Recently the school has employed Gumaraa to run the LAD program, this stands for Language, Art and Dance. This is a program to help Aboriginal kids reconnect with their cultures, it helps them understand and perform ceremonies their ancestors performed. The school has asked Gumaraa to help them construct this program in a way that kids can learn and have fun. Gumaraa is an Aboriginal cultural experience organization that is local to our area. It helps piece back the past for the younger generation of Aboriginal kids. This program teaches kids dances, Dharawal language and about plants and resources that are used as food and medicine in the bush. Approximately 25 students attend this program every Tuesday period 4 and 5. “It teaches the younger generations about their culture so they don’t have to grow up with a piece of them missing”.
