Godzilla Minus One Review
Summary
Godzilla Minus one follows the Character Koichi Skishima, a Japanese WWII Kamikaze Pilot who after faking a plane malfunction encounters a massive monster that goes on a devastating rampage across japan. Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki.
Backstory of Character
Godzilla, also known as Gojira has been a popular movie monster for close to 70 years, in fact this movie is celebrating the 70th anniversary, there are now (including minus one) 34 Japanese Godzilla movies as well as 5 American films produced by Tri Star and Legendary films, a 6th american Godzilla movie being released April 2024 with Toho (the company who created Godzilla) releasing their new Godzilla Movie Godzilla: Minus One taking place 2 years after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, Godzilla is an interesting character, with his first ever movie appearance in Tohos Gojira In 1954 appearing as the main antagonist after being awaken by Nuclear tests.
My Honest thoughts
This movie… is absolutely amazing, this has to be my favorite Godzilla movie of all time, this movie is basically Japanese Oppenheimer, the impact that WWII had on the innocent people of japan is extremely well adapted, Takashi Yamazaki is probably one of my favorite directors and i hope he comes back for another Godzilla movie. I'm so happy this movie is getting the recognition it deserves. Not only in Japan but throughout the world as well.
The Good (the movies pros)
This movie is stunning, it is some of the best visual effects I've ever seen, and this movie had only a budget of 15 to 20 million when movies with a budget of 200 million don't have this good of effects, the human Characters, these are some of the best human characters to be seen in a Godzilla movie, the emotion that Kamiki Ryunosuke puts into the role of Koichi Shikishima is absolutely amazing, unlike other Godzilla movies you actually want to see the main characters, this is the best Godzilla movie since Shin Godzilla 2016 and Gojira 1954.
The Bad (the movies cons)
Yes this movie is amazing, but it may have a few problems with certain people, for example the movie i pretty serious and dark, topics of death and suicide do appear a few times, another thing some audiences may dislike is the fact that it in inJapanese, people way have difficulty reading the films subtitles, if you're looking for an all dark Godzilla movie with no comedy than i recommend Shin Godzilla, this movie does include a few comedic but if a movie was all dark and serious than it does get boring pretty quickly, i hope all audiences can enjoy this film
!!SPOILERS!!
The Ugly (spoiler),
My god is the movie brutal, this has some of the best destruction scenes in any Godzilla movie, building are toppled, vehicles thrown, bodies rag dolled into the air due to Godzillas massive weight on the streets of japan. This version of Godzilla atomic breath has to be the most dangerous and power we've ever seen, i highly recommend watching it if you're a fan of destruction movies. Another thing i want to mention is how interesting the way they killed Godzilla was, in Gojira 1954 they used a bomb called the oxygen destroyer, a device that would kill all oxygen in the area leaving Godzilla decomposed and vaporized Which was a very different way to what happened in this film
Final opinion
This film is brilliant and earns the title of best action movie of the year, i recommend watching it in Imax to really get that immersive experience, it has some of the best acting ive seen in a film for ages and has been the best movie i've ever seen in a while .
10/10
