International women’s day
International Women’s Day is held on March 8th every year. It is a day to celebrate women all around the world and their social ,economic, cultural, and political achievements. It is also a day to celebrate women’s rights, bring attention to issues of gender equality, reproductive rights and violence/abuse against women.
The first international women’s day was celebrated in 1911 in Austria ,Denmark ,Germany and Switzerland. The colours of international women’s day are purple ,green, white they each represent something different purple represents justice and dignity/green symbolizes hope and white symbolizes purity. Clara Zetkin came up with the idea for this international day she was leader of “women’s office” for the social democratic party in Germany and she pressed demands during a conference in Copenhagen in 1910.
This year at APHS (Albion Park High School) to celebrate International Women’s Day, the school held a disco in the PFA (performing arts) Hall which had all our favourite female artist's songs. It was a $1 entry, and with leftover money we could buy glow sticks and get our face painted in purple ,pink and blue. Everyone enjoyed dancing and listening to music, whilst having fun with friends or teachers.
Happy International Women's Day from APHS!!
