Who was the best? Who was an absolute disappointment? Australian Students reveal true feelings about Sydney Hamilton Performance, 16/11/22.
TOP 3 CHARACTERS:
King George; the actual reason anyone watches the show.
“I was in love with him… His personality was incredible!” - Quote from Student at APHS.
The opening voice over is done by King George III, a fandom favourite character with a sassy attitude and sparkly crown. His first song is called ‘You’ll be Back’ and it’s him singing about America losing the war and eventually returning to Britain for help. The actor for the performance that night was Brent Hill and the crowd adored him. The overall vote to his performance was a 10/10, even though he only appears for 4 songs in the entire show.
Aaron Burr; He may be the baddest but he ‘the bestest’
“I had goosebumps! His take on ‘The Room Where It Happens’ was amazing!” - Senior APHS Student.
Aaron Burr was a founding father of America and a close friend of Alexander Hamilton. They fought often and constantly argued throughout the show, much to the audience’s enjoyment. The understudy,Iosefa Laga’aia, was a first time performer and absolute LEGEND (and his father a good friend of Mrs Keen - humble brag). Originally a Swing-on that covered Hercules Mulligan, Burr and King George, Iosefa’s debut performance as Burr was clearly favourable with the audience.
Peggy Schuyler/ Maria Renolyds; Duality of Woman.
Bright, bubbly Peggy was a crowd favourite in the first act, stealing hearts of everyone in the theatre. The character, played by Elandrah Eramiha, was unique and imaginative - taking a childish wonder and rebelling teenagers fused into an original view on Peggy. In the interval, murmurs of whether Eramiha could take on the evil, seductive role of Maria Renolyds, the result stunned everyone.
“Wife material…” - Anonymous Student, APHS.
It was better than expected - the mistress portrayed was 100% everything needed in the performance. The red dressed Maria Renolyds was excellently performed by Eramiha. The audience couldn't have been more satisfied with the results.
TOP 2 DISAPPOINTMENTS - BRUTAL!
Moments when Aussie students didn't appreciate the trip due to a couple of faults…
The Casting of Eliza; Did they think it through?
After her first note, something was off. Her voice, although impeccable in the production, was not to the audience’s enjoyment. Chloe Zuel, more famous for her role as Catherine of Aragon in the 2020 production of SIX!The Musical didn't put her best effort into the show. Was it a bad day? Her range was shaky and her voice lacked strength and character, perhaps too interested in becoming the next Phillipa Soo rather than taking her own spin on the role. It's still undecided by the students if she redeemed herself in the finale.
Dinner: Dine and Despair
The ravenous students of Albion Park High rejoiced at the mention of dinner, climbing off the bus enthusiastically and marching right into the shopping mall. Wallets and purses burning in pockets, coins and cards singing; everyone was ready for a hot meal.
What they got was appalling.
Everywhere was closed, except for the understaffed Mcdonalds and quiet Oporto. The students desperately searched for more options; the last being a closing ice-creamery. Eventually the crowd gave in, splitting in half over both food chains. The younger staff of Mcdonalds were inexperienced and lazy, unaffected by the hangry crowd of young adults. The line was longer than a giraffe's neck, the wait after ordering even longer.
By the time everyone had received their food, it was disgusting. Chicken from Mcdonalds either burnt or raw, the chips undercooked to the point of being raw potato rectangles. Oporto served up well, being slightly faster yet extremely greasy and small in size.
Overall, the students rate the dinner a 1/10. That one nice vote going towards the ice cream place with extremely large scoops for a reasonable price.
