Just in time for summer, our expert film reviewer, Holli, tackles one of the greatest shark films of all time - Steven Spielberg's 'Jaws'. Happy swimming APHS!!
Jaws was inspired by a 1964 story about a fisherman named Frank Mundus, who caught a 2 ton great white shark off the shore of Montauk New York. I watched Jaws in the first place because I went to a Sydney Museum that had Sharks and the Jaws poster was there, so we decided to go home and watch it. Jaws was directed by Steven Spielberg (who produced movies such as; Schindlers list, Jurassic park, E.T and more.) and Jaws was important as a movie because it made him the must watch director, and it made him one of the greatest film makers. Jaws influenced our views on sharks by scaring people and making them think they are dangerous.
The storyline of Jaws is that a women gets killed by a shark while skinny dipping, near the New England tourist town of Amity Island. Police Chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches but, mayor Larry Vaughn overrules him fearing the loss of tourism. They go on a boat to try to kill or capture the shark to stop the amount of people dying, and the more people that died, the less people showed up to the beach, causing the town population to die down.
My favorite special effect was how realistic they made the deaths and blood look. It made me feel like I actually felt like it was real and It made me feel like I was getting eaten by the shark. The suspense in the music is good and makes you realize something bad is going to happen. My least favorite effect was how fake they made the shark look you could tell it was fake and animatronic.
My favorite part is in the end when they try to kill the shark, and the shark bites the boat and Quint slides down the boat trying to hold onto ropes, but the shark bites his leg and eats him causing him to whine in pain.
I think all teenagers should watch this film, because it is an awesome and interesting movie and it is fun to watch. It definitely is interesting and can also teach people life lessons to be careful when you are in the water at all times I rate it 10/10.
