“I am” Poem – By Daniel Mawbey
Year 10
I am an empire to be lost at sea, a locked door without a key
I wonder how the world can be, more than an endless odyssey
I hear the cries as time unfold’, whilst life decays before gone cold
I see the writing on the wall, as certain as the night doth fall
I want to live independently, free from the truth that burdens me
I am an empire to be lost in sea, destined for immateriality
I pretend and act indifferently, to the gravitas of my identity
I feel the pressure to conform, to the inattentive societal norm
I touch on the subject and try to interject
I worry however of the one to abject
I cry seldom over what should be, for I am not a victim of such fallacy’
I am an empire to be lost at sea, drowning in inevitability
I understand so much nihility, for the poison of ignorance is a debility
I say to those who claim to be wise, that arrogance and self hoods will be our demise
I dream of freedom from discord, for there must be greater good to which we’re called
I try to see the light, for what else do we have in the dead of night
I hope to be more than just me, for self satisfaction is the enemy
I am an empire to be lost at sea, dying from iniquity
